Emotional Wellness
A fundamental component of wellness is one’s mental and emotional health. We live in a society today where excess stimulation is considered “normal”. People are experiencing ever higher levels of stress and agitation and are using a variety of means (usually unhealthy means) to cope. Add to this an accumulation of unprocessed emotional trauma stemming from negative life experiences (often in childhood), and you have a recipe for a great deal of chronic suffering and general unhappiness that we can call emotional pain. Coping mechanisms often include, drugs (recreational and pharmaceutical), alcohol, t.v., internet, gambling, shopping, sex, gossiping, eating, etc. These may provide a temporary escape from the emotional pain, however, none of these outlets address the core issue.
Emotional Eating
Let’s use eating as an example. Often times Emotional Eating is used as a coping mechanism to numb out stress and uncomfortable emotions. Although the emotional discomfort may be reduced temporarily, the relief is very short lived as the problem itself was never addressed. In addition, we now have more burden to deal with in the form of an over stuffed stomach, usually with very unhealthy foods, plus all of the negative health consequences that go along with overeating, such as weight gain and disease (e.g. diabetes, colon cancer, heart disease, etc.)
Are we Really Happy?
A primary factor underlying Emotional Eating (as well as all of the other unhealthy escape outlets) is that we are not generally taught in our society how to deal with our emotions. We learn from a very young age that some emotions (positive ones) are appropriate and some (like anger) are not. If we are sad or down we are told to “cheer up”, “don’t cry”, and before every photograph we are told to “smile”. All of the people in the magazines look happy and we feel we should take our children to the “happiest place on earth” – Disneyland. One way or another we get the implicit message that we are supposed to be “happy” all the time. But is any of this happiness genuine or are we settling for a cheap superficial illusion? As we stuff down the truth of how we really feel, we miss our opportunity for real contentment. Contentment that comes from expressing the truth of how we feel and learning how to process our emotions as they arise.[/fusion_text][fusion_imageframe lightbox=”no” gallery_id=”” lightbox_image=”” style_type=”glow” hover_type=”none” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” borderradius=”0″ stylecolor=”” align=”none” link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWw5X0hdGlM” linktarget=”_blank” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”0.1″ animation_offset=”” hide_on_mobile=”no” class=”” id=””] [/fusion_imageframe][fusion_text]
Learning to FEEL
Given our socialization regarding the “appropriateness” of what we feel, and our training in stuffing down the truth of our emotions, “feeling” can be very scary and overwhelming for us. This is especially true if what we are feeling isn’t socially acceptable. So, as a result, whatever emotions we’re feeling usually get held in and pushed down into the body. There, they get lodged and stuck in our cells where they fester over time leading to chronic emotional disturbance as well as physical disease. To live a truly free and joyful life, we need to process and release these stagnant emotions and learn to live in harmony with our emotions, both the so-called “good” and “bad”.
Emotional Processing
One of the services we offer at High Vibe Life is Emotional Processing. This is similar to counseling; however with a very significant and profound shift in approach and methodology. Unlike traditional psychotherapies that generally focus on the mental side of the problem (talking, analyzing, re-living the past, etc.), the Emotional Processing we offer goes to heart of the issue by addressing the Raw Emotion itself.
E-Motion is simply Energy in Motion. It is not “good” nor “bad” (despite what society tells us). All emotional energy is natural and healthy. It is part of being a Whole being and it is meant to flow. The nature of e-motion is that it wants to move, and if we stuff it and hold it in then it stagnates and distorts into something very unhealthy. Mental illness and physical disease are the result.
During an Emotional Processing session, we create the space and offer the guidance needed to allow this energy to move and be released. The life event that created the energy may or may not be addressed directly, as the event is secondary to the emotion itself. What is important is that the energy of the repressed emotion is allowed to be expressed and to move. In this way it can be released and healed.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ last=”yes” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” hover_type=”none” link=”” border_position=”all” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ animation_offset=”” class=”” id=””][fusion_text]
